Safe & Sound on the Trails - Basic Rules for a perfect Cross-Country Skiing in the Dolomites
Your track. Your moment. Your responsibility.
Cross-country skiing in the Dolomites is more than just a sport – it's a feeling. Fresh air, perfect trails, endless landscapes. To keep this experience safe and enjoyable for everyone, just a bit of attention goes a long way.
1. Be respectful
Act in a way that doesn’t endanger or disturb others. The trail belongs to all of us.
2. Follow signs and directions
Ski only in the designated direction and technique – classic or skating. Trail signage shows you the way.
3. Keep to the right
On double or multiple tracks, always stay on the far right. Groups must ski in single file – this applies to skating too.
4. Overtake carefully
Passing is allowed on the left or right – but only when there’s enough space. If safe, the skier in front should move aside.
5. Adjust speed and distance
Adapt your speed to your skill level, visibility, and number of people on the trail. Always keep a safe distance.
6. Be mindful in oncoming traffic
Keep right when passing others head-on. On single downhill tracks, the skier coming down has priority.
7. Keep poles close to your body
When overtaking or passing, keep your poles close – it’s safer for everyone.
8. Clear the track quickly
If you fall or stop, please move off the track as quickly as possible.
9. Help if there’s an accident
In case of an accident, everyone must help. Witnesses or those involved must provide their contact details.
10. Respect opening hours
Use of the trails is only permitted during official opening times – this is also part of your responsibility.
11. At your own risk
You use the trails at your own risk. Stay alert – for yourself and for others.
Together on a safe track
With a bit of care and team spirit, cross-country skiing in the Dolomites becomes a true joy for everyone.
